The answer in short is YES. Have you heard of this? The Makeup Eraser ($20) started showing up in Sephora stores this year and I must say that I was intrigued by the concept. Being a steadfast wash your face all the time type of gal, (I double and sometimes TRIPLE cleanse) the idea of using only a towel to remove my makeup scared me a little. However, I was willing to take the plunge in the name of curiosity.
The Makeup Eraser is a microfiber cloth with a short side and a longer side that is good for exfoliation.
Sephora (who started carrying the product sometime last year) says:
“Remove smear-proof, waterproof makeup and mascara with The Original MakeUp Eraser®. Free of chemicals, this makeup remover gets rid of all types of makeup, including stage, sports, and theatrical makeup. Each cloth will last a thousand washes, and you only need to add warm water and then remove makeup. This ultra-soft, woven polyester-blend cloth gets rid of tough makeup without leaving behind a residue—just a fresh, healthy feeling.”
As far as how it works…the official website says “The cloth is made from a specially knitted polyester/silk fibre which is finer than human hair. So when wet the eraser creates a hydro-mechanical process that breaks the surface tension of the oils that bond makeup to the skin.” Say what now??
So the first time I saw it, I was CURIOUS because I Use washcloths regularly to remove makeup. So when I was contacted by them to review it, I decided to give it a whirl. Now…one thing you do have to remember to do is WASH IT FIRST…before you do anything. Just throw it in the washing machine. Then after it is washed and dried the steps go like this – Wet the cloth (I mean SATURATE IT) and then begin to wash your face in a circular motion. I will say this…..all of my makeup came off almost immediately. The only thing that bugged me a little is that I felt I had to tug a little too hard on my eyes. So I tested it again and this time I used it with a little bit of my oil based cleansing balm (on my eyes only). Now that I liked, because it felt more like a washcloth situation. I understand that’s not how it was intended to be used, but it worked for me.
What I do like about it is that it has no chemicals, and I do like this better than a face wipe (which depending on the brand, doesn’t really get everything off anyway). So who is the target audience for this? Anyone really, if you workout daily, this would be perfect for your gymbag, or if you like to remove your makeup before you wash your face. All in all, a pretty innovative product.
